Welcome to the Southeastern Michigan Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation. Our chapter will be focusing on the many inland lakes surrounding Detroit, Lake St. Clair, Detroit River and Lake Erie. We feel very much like the founders of Surfrider back in 1984. They were compelled to protect what they so dearly loved, a classic and iconic wave in Malibu California. Us Michiganders who have founded, and who are now presiding over this chapter, also feel compelled to protect our precious fresh water. This water not only allows us to enjoy our activities; water skiing, wake boarding, SUP; fishing, boating etc… and yes, unsalted surf; but also represents approximately 23 percent of this earth’s fresh water!
It is our privilege to represent the foundation here in Southeastern Michigan and its core values. It is also our privilege to work together with our friends, neighbors and communities to pull together and find a solution towards the preservation of our water.
By working together in an environment of trust and mutual respect, creating awareness and embracing change – we can make a difference. The initiatives and programs afforded to us from the foundations headquarters in San Clemente, California combined with our efforts locally will move us in a direction our children and grandchildren will be proud of. Because when it comes to clean fresh water and some H2o induced fun – tomorrow is already here! Let’s work together and protect this precious resource.
Sincerely, and on behalf of the Southeastern Michigan Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation, welcome. Please join us to make us heard and have an impact on what we love.
